THE BE SOBER MINISTRY

Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around
like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in
your faith” (1 Pt 5:8–10).

Friars serving and welcoming people under a bridge

Our Fraternity’s very first pastoral work was the welcoming of young people struggling with drug addiction or coming from trafficking environments. This was the first cry we heard, coming from the existential peripheries.

Today, the Be Sober Ministry includes therapy, post-treatment counseling, and ongoing support for the families of those we welcome.

Weekly gatherings, also called “support groups,” help sustain sobriety during the process of social reintegration. There are also regional meetings, as well as national and international forums that bring together all those involved in this mission within the Fraternity: consecrated members, lay collaborators, those currently in recovery, former residents, as well as healthcare and social service professionals.

Some of our “Beloved Sons,” as we call those we serve, after completing the initial therapeutic phase, remain with us as missionaries—coordinating Rehab Houses, assisting in Mission Houses, and teaching vocational skills, among other services.

We also hold a weekly Be Sober Ministry support group in Kansas City, Kansas. Anyone seeking support, healing, or a path toward sobriety is welcome to join us every Wednesday.
